On Sunday 14th May 2023, Shuzoku Wado-Kai Association, Dalry Karate Group and the Italian Institute of Culture Edinburgh welcomed Olympic Karate Champion, Luigi Busà from Italy to Edinburgh Napier University to deliver 3 seminars to our members, kids under 12, 12+ and adults and an additional support needs karate workshop.
Luigi was fantastic with the members of all abilities, from beginners to elite. This was a truly inspiring event, a day to remember for everyone who took part.

Congratulations to the children from Oaklands School who have passed their first karate grading with Dalry Karate Group. Instructors Andrew and Louise Elliott have significant experience of teaching karate to children with disabilities and additional support needs. The children have been working very hard and were all delighted to receive the grade of junior yellow belt.
The next Shuzoku Wado-Kai course will focus on pair work. Saturday 22nd April 2023. 2-4pm at Xcite Broxburn Sports Centre. Adults: All Grades | Kids: 4th Kyu+.
We are delighted to invite all SWA members to the Shuzoku Wado-Kai Association Championships. The event will contain 2 competitions: Kata (All ages), Kickmaster (<13 years). Each competition will be further split into age/belt categories as appropriate.
Venue: Winchburgh Sport and Wellbeing Hub (next to Winchburgh Academy) Linlithgow Road, Winchburgh, West Lothian, EH52 6FY
Entry Fee: £15 (includes up to 2 adult spectators per family)
Kata: competitors perform their chosen kata (younger members can perform half kata and copy if necessary) – best performance progresses.
Kickmaster – competitors perform their best punching and kicking techniques against the strike dummy – best techniques progress.
All competitors will receive a participation medal. There will be winners medals for 1st/2nd/ 3rd places in each category. We encourage members of all ages and grades to participate.

We are delighted to announce the very special guest for our karate workshop will be Luigi Busà, Italian Karate Athlete, Olympic Gold Medallist in Tokyo and multiple World and European Karate Champion. The course has been organised by the Italian Institute of Culture in Edinburgh in conjunction with Shuzoku Wado-Kai Association.
Timings: 10:45 – 11:45 am: Children under 12 years (SWA Licenced Members Only) 11:45 am – 1:15 pm: Children 12+ and Adults (includes 30 mins interval) (SWA Licenced Members/Invited Guests Only) 1:15 pm – 2:15 pm: Students with disabilities and/or additional support needs. (Open to SKGB/BKF members with a disability or additional support needs).
Cost: Free of Charge.
SWA Members/Invited Guests attending should contact their club instructor to register for the workshop.
At 2pm on Saturday 15th April 2023, in Studio 2 at the Winchburgh Sport and Wellbeing Hub, we will host a practical judges/officials course and would encourage all our adult members to come along, learn the rules and get some practical experience of score/time keeping and judging. The course will be very relaxed with no pressure. We would also like to invite some of our more experienced kids (12 years + kyu grades to take part in some practice bouts).
Then at 3.30pm we will hold our 2023 Annual General Meeting. This is open to all licenced adult members, as well as parents of licenced child members, please register for the AGM via this form.
